MORIGAON: The 96th birth anniversary of the music legend Dr Bhupen Hazarika was celebrated by Morigaon District Journalist Association (MDJA) on Thursday.

On the occasion, the journalist association organized a meeting chaired by the president, Birinchi Sarma. Earlier senior journalists Upen Deka, Mahendra Nath Hazarika, Pratap Hazarika, Bubumoni Goswami, Jagadish Nath, Ajit Sarma, Ritumoni Mahanta and Kalpataru Choudhary offered floral tribute at the portrait of the Dr Bhupen Hazarika. Senior journalist and journalist pension holder Upen Deka spoke on the music legend at length in the meeting.

NAGAON: Along with the rest of the State, with a day-long agenda, various cultural organizations of Nagaon observed the 96th birth anniversary of great legendary musical maestro Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika here at Nagaon on Thursday.

Silpi Somaj, Asom, a prominent cultural organization of the State, celebrated the birth anniversary of Bhupen da centrally with a three-day long programme. The programme was initiated here at the compound of Nagaon district library with unfurling flag. Over 500 artistes, teachers as well as students from various educational institutions participated in a chorus in which the participants sang together the evergreen song of Dr Bhupen Hazarika Manuhe Manuhar Babe.

Similarly, with a day-long programme, Asomiya Sahitya Sanmilani also observed the birth anniversary of Sudhakantha at Nagaon Pensioners' Bhavan. Retired physician and former Joint Director of Nagaon District Health Services and district president of Sahitya Sanmilani, Dr Risheswar Thengal Saikia chaired the programme and Dr Praneswar Nath, social activist Mukut Bhuyan graced the occasion as chief as well as special guests respectively. Besides, Dr Sagor Boruah, the State president of the organization, was also present in the programme.

Noted Assamese story tellers Sibananda Kakoti and Bhadreswar Rajkhuwa ceremonially released two books penned by Suren Kr Bora and Pritismita Bora. Besides, a host of programmes as well as competitions on Dr Bhupen Hazarika's songs and music were also conducted among the students during the day.

Silpi Kanon Asom, another leading cultural organization, also observed the day here at Nagaon Swahid Bhavan where the members as well as other dignitaries of the town paid floral homage and tribute at the portrait of Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

Srimanta Sankardev Mission, a prominent human welfare organization of Northeast India, also celebrated the birth anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika at its Panigaon Chariali-based head office. The president of the organization, Premeswar Das and other portfolios of the organization paid floral tributes to the portrait of great musical maestro Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

Similarly, Silpi Mancha, Nagaon also observed the birth anniversary of Dr Hazarika and also felicitated three noted singers as well as artistes of the district on the occasion for their outstanding dedication and performance in the field.
