Niru Sarma Parajuli, a noted writer, poetess, singer, lyricist, dancer, advocate, and organiser, left for her heavenly abode on August 27 in Mumbai. She was born at Gangmouthan, Bihali, on April 15, 1967. She had her early education at Bihali and Biswanath Chariali. Thereafter, she did her Master's in the Assamese language and literature and also earned an LL.B. from Gauhati University. She also did her M.A. in Nepali and Bisharad in Hindi. From her school days, she showed her creativity in writing poems and stories. She had a number of publications to her credit, both in Assamese and Nepali. She was a jury member of the Sahitya Akademi. She also translated the books of Padmashree Eli Ahmed and Sanant Tanti into Nepali. She was felicitated by the government of Assam under the Bhasha Gaurav Scheme of 2021. She was the secretary and general secretary of Gorkha Sanmilan, the assistant general secretary of All Assam Lekhika Santha, the working president of Lekhika Santha, and a member of Gorkha Parisangha. She also held the post of working president of the Nepali Sahitya Sabha. She participated as a Nepali poet from the N.E. of India in the North East Southern Meet held at Hyderabad, organized by Sahitya Akademi. She also participated in several literary conferences held in Nepal and occupied a position in the Sahitya Akademi where multi-lingual poets met. Late Parajuli had a bright career in the fields of art, culture, and literature. She started her career in the Nepali weekly "Deshbarta" from her school days and equally served both Nepali and Assamese.

Her untimely death at the age of 56 has caused a huge loss in the field of legal fraternity and the literary circle, which is not easy to fill up. Her body was brought to her native place, where a large number of people attended the funeral and said a tearful goodbye.

She is survived by her husband. Her death was condoled by many organizations in Assam, including the Bar Association of Gauhati High Court. On the occasion of "Adya Sharddha," I pay my last homage for the eternal peace of her departed soul.
