DIBRUGARH: The All Assam Contractor Workers Union (AACWU), Chabua Air Force Station unit, affiliated to AICCTU today demanded full compensation to the family members of Srijoy Munda and Pravin Urang, who died due to electrocution during their work.

Addressing a press conference here, Lawrence Nag, a member of AACWU, said that three months have passed since they died but till date their families have not got anything from the company where they were engaged as workers.

“We demand that the deceased’s family members should get the PF and ESIC as soon as possible which is stuck due to negligence of the company Kabita enterprises. On October 20, 2024, the incident occurred when both the workers were working at the Chabua Air Force Station when they died of electrocution. The company where they were working assured the family members that they will give the compensation but till date the family members haven’t received anything. They have violated the Labour Law by exploiting the workers by engaging them on a Sunday, when the incident happened,” said Nag.

Nag added, “They were given the salary in the hand-pay system. We demand a pay slip because the owner of the company is violating the labour law by not giving the pay slip of their salary.”

Nag said that a case was registered at Chabua Police Station but the police are not taking any action against the contractor and owner of the company.

“Both the deceased’s families should get Rs 40 lakh but the company tried to hush up the matter by convincing the family members. They also threatened them to withdraw the case which was filed at Chabua Police Station,” Nag said.

Animika Urang, wife of deceased Pravin Urang said, “We are facing harassment from the company. We urge the district administration to look into the matter and take action to resolve our case as soon as possible.”
