GUWAHATI: Once again, Aadhaar has reunited a family. This time, a divyang child in Assam was reunited after being missing from his home since November 2023.
The child, who has speech and hearing impairments, and is unable to communicate, was found wandering homeless by locals at Duliajan, Assam on November 10, 2023 and handed over the missing child to the local Police Station on the same day. The police referred him to Mrinaljyoti Jyotiniwas Children Home, Duliajan, Dibrugarh, Assam.
When communication could not be established through writing and sign language, he was shown pictures, and he pointed to an Aadhaar card. The Superintendent of Mrinaljyoti Jyotiniwas Children Home, Duliajan, Dibrugarh, Assam approached UIDAI RO Guwahati on April 9, 2025 regarding details required of a missing child.
When the Guwahati Regional Office of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) was contacted, it offered its support and advised that the child may submit his fingerprint biometrics for a possible Aadhaar enrolment. Upon submission of the same, the existing Aadhaar biometrics could be matched and from the Aadhaar details, his home address could be located, and he could be reunited with his family soon.
Finally, the Aadhaar enrolment came as a respite & the child whose name is Ram Bahadur Pradhan from Dhemaji district, Assam was reunited with his family members on April 23, 2025.
Aadhaar enrolment helps not only in ease of living and better service delivery but can also help persons separated from their families to reconnect. Therefore, UIDAI has always been encouraging children to be enrolled at the earliest, and their biometrics be enrolled once they attain the age of five years and updated upon attainment of 15 years of age. Such enrolment and update are free of charge and can be done at all Aadhaar enrolment and update centres across the country, stated a press release.
