BONGAIGAON:  Chaotic scenes erupted on Saturday at Bongaigaon while the All Assam Minorities Students Union (AAMSU) held a rally at Bhowlaguri of Bongaigaon.

The rally was organized in protest against ongoing eviction drives throughout Assam. Several hundred AAMSU cadres assembled on Saturday at Bhowlaguri for a protest rally from Bhowlaguri to DC office Bongaigaon. But, the rally was stopped by the police administration just after it had begun. This resulted in an argument between police and AAMSU cadres, which was thankfully controlled before it turned violent. Addressing the media, AAMSU said that it did not have problems with the eviction drives. “But we demand prior settlement of the victims of eviction. Since no such assurances have been given by the government, we are protesting. Moreover, a specific community is being targeted in this eviction drive. We condemn it and warn against such political games,” it said.
