NAGAON: A man identified as Maheswar Karmakar (30 years) was trampled to death by a wild elephant at the old line of Udmari Tea Estate near Samaguri in Nagaon district on Friday evening. The victim had gone to the old line of the tea estate in search of his cattle when a tusker suddenly attacked him, leading to his death on the spot, sources added.
On being informed, local forest officials rushed to the spot and spotted his lifeless body. They sent the earthly remains of the victim to Nagaon Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
Meanwhile the officials from the local forest range office, succeeded in pushing back the wild elephant from the tea estate.
Reports said that a herd of wild elephants had been creating panic among the local people of the greater Udmari for over a couple of weeks due to which the locals of the areas had to spend sleepless nights.
