LAKHIMPUR: "Various key decisions will be taken in the Lakhimpur General Conference of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) to be held from November 19 to November 21. Along with the academic issues, the burning problems of the State will get priority in the discussion during the event," said Sankarjyoti Baruah, the general secretary of AASU in Lakhimpur on Thursday. He said so while interacting with the media persons in North Lakhimpur town during his visit to the district.

The Lakhimpur General Conference of the organization will be held at the Padmanath Gohain Baruah Kshetra set up at North Lakhimpur Boys' Government HS School playground with a 3-day long programmes from Saturday. On Thursday, Sankarjyoti Baruah, accompanied by several office bearers of the central committee of the organization, visited Lakhimpur district to take stock of the progress of the preparations taken to conduct the extravaganza smoothly and successfully on the designated days. Almost eight thousand student delegates across the State will assemble in Lakhimpur to take part in the event.

During the interaction with the media persons, the AASU general secretary reiterated that the conference would adopt resolutions regarding the anti-big river dam agitation, anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) agitation, flood and erosion problems of the State, burning educational issues etc along with other problems of the State. Decisions will also be taken to conduct various programmes for the academic enhancement of the State and to safeguard the interest and future of the students' community, added the general secretary while appealing to all to make the event successful.

On the other hand, the reception committee and Lakhimpur district unit of AASU have almost completed their preparation to hold the extravaganza from November 19. On that day, the agenda of the event kick-started with a plantation drive to be inaugurated by Lakhimpur Divisional Forest Officer Ashok Kumar Dev Choudhury. On the same day, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Memorial Main Gate, main stage and auditorium, book fair and trade fair, Nanda Kishor Maheshwari Delegates' Camp and Guest House, Lakhimi Dining Hall will be inaugurated. A series of literary, debate and poem recitation competitions will be held from 11.00 am. AASU central committee executive body meet will commence from 7.00 pm. It will be followed by a cultural event with the participation of invited artistes.
