AAUA activists gherao Lakhimpur WRD office

LAKHIMPUR: The activists of the Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Unemployed Association (AAUA), led by president Binod Das and general secretary Khirod Chetia, gheraoed the Lakhimpur Division Water Resources Department (WRD) office on Thursday demanding the transfer of Assistant Engineer Sanjib Borah.

In this regard, the Lakhimpur district unit AAUA president and secretary stated, "An assistant engineer named Sanjib Borah has been working in Lakhimpur Circle of Water Resources Department for more than 20 years. Various allegations of irregularities regarding the implementation of embankment construction projects have been raised against him. Though our organization had submitted memorandum to the WRD minister demanding his transfer, he has not been transferred yet. By initiating the protest programme, we have once again demanded the State Government and the department concerned to transfer him within seven days. Otherwise, we will intensify our protest."

They further became vocal against the State Government and Water Resources Department (WRD) regarding the officers and employees who have beene working in the same division for a long period. By staging the protest programme, the organization submitted a memorandum to the Secretary of the Water Resources Department and demanded him to transfer the assistant engineer within seven days.
