ABITA-UNICEF conducted programmes for adolescent empowerment in Numaligarh

Numaligarh: The Assam Branch Indian Tea Association (ABITA), in collaboration with UNICEF, recently conducted many programmes for adolescent girls and boys.

On July 31, an exposure visit to police station, post office, bank, ITI and Skill Development Training Centre was organized with a section of boys and girls of Hatikhuli, Diffoloo and Borsapori Tea Estates. ABITA-UNICEF has organized many events and workshops to give a platform and to encourage the tea community to develop their skills and to generate awareness on various social issues like child marriage, child labour, need of education, nutrition, cleanliness, health and hygiene.

Recently, a five-day folklore workshop for community messaging on different issues was held at Borsapori TE among teenage girls and boys of Rungagora, Numaligarh, Borsapori and Behora Tea Estates. ABITA Zone-2 secretary Dr Partha Pratim Sarma, ABITA-UNICEF Project Child Survival coordinator Babli Das Gogoi and community mobilizers are working on the entire project with an objective to bring in change in the tea estates.
