Absconding AMC&H faculty Dr Ajanta Hazarika finally surrenders

Dibrugarh: Additional Superintendent and Registrar of Plastic Surgery Department, Dr Ajanta Hazarika of Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMC&H) who had been absconding since the last 21 days, surrendered before the court of session judge here on Monday.

Police were on her track since a case registered was against her at Gabharupathar Police station by one youth, Amal Nath alleging that AMC&H faculty Dr Hazarika duped him and three other youths of Rs 22 lakh on the pretext to offer jobs in the Indian Railways and OIL. Police efforts to arrest her had turned into a fiasco even after conducting raids in her Naliapool residence, seizing her five bank accounts and picking up her driver and husband Simanta Jyoti Hazarika for interrogation. Police later set free both her husband and driver. The court also rejected her interim bail plea.

At last, police arrested her husband Simanta Jyoti Hazarika and sent him to jail custody after being produced before the court on December 25 on charges of helping his wife, accused in case no 2150/20 u/s 120(B),420,409 and 506 of Gabharupathar police station. Finding no option, Dr Hazarika finally was compelled to surrender before Dibrugarh court.
