Absconding housemaid finally nabbed in Tinsukia

TINSUKIA: A Tinsukia police team led by Bitul Chetia DSP (Hq) finally nabbed the domestic help from a hideout in the Parbotia area of Tinsukia on Tuesday evening, who after murdering an elderly woman and grievously assaulting other, was absconding since committing the crime on Sunday.

The housemaid, identified as Maya Kalinti, allegedly killed septuagenarian Namita Choudhury of Daspara Borpathar with a machete and critically injured her septuagenarian sister Sumitra Bhattacharjee and decamped with cash. The incident created a sensation in the town

On interrogation, Maya revealed that she was in dire need of money and debt trapped due to a microfinance loan. Finding no alternative, she joined as domestic help in the house Namita Choudhury recently where she worked earlier also. On Sunday Maya noticed Choudhury handling some cash. Unable to control her temptation, she looted the amount after killing the elderly woman and fled before injuring her sister. According to the police she hailed from the Nockrai area, almost 5 km from Tinsukia town.
