ABSU observes Bodofa UN Brahma's 65th birth anniversary in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) on Wednesday observed the 65th birth anniversary of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, the former president of the union who started the mass movement for Bodoland state, as 'Students' Day' centrally at Thulungapuri, Dotma in Kokrajhar district. The day was also observed by every district committee of the ABSU within and outside the State.

As part of the programme, the president of the ABSU, Dipen Boro hoisted the organizational flag in the presence of activists of the union, students and masses. The chairman of the UNB Trust and Principal of Janata College, Dr. Subung Basumatary paid floral tribute at the statue of Bodofa while the advisor of the ABSU, Khungkra Sargiary paid homage at his graveyard.

The chief of BTR, Pramod Boro, UPPL candidates for 30-Kokrajhar East-Lawrence Islary, 29-Kokrajhar West-Manaranjan Brahma and 28-Gossagaigaon-Somnath Narzary, former Member of Council Legislative Assembly (MCLA) of BTC, Jatirindra Brahma and other dignitaries also took part.

Later, talking to reporters, the president of the ABSU, Dipen Boro said the student body had been observing the birth anniversary of Bodofa as Students' Day every year with a view to bring sustainable development in education sector. He said that Bodofa UN Brahma worked not only for the Bodos but also for down-trodden communities of the region so that they can grow equally with other advanced communities. "The ABSU has been working to streamline and fulfil the dream of Bodofa who wanted to make the Bodos a master race in the world," he said, adding that the union would continue to work for the down-trodden by following the philosophy of Bodofa.

Boro said that the UNB Trust and UN Academy had been working to establish the name of Bodofa in the world forum and they would continue to strive to achieve his goal. On the other hand, the 65th birth anniversary of Bodofa UN Brahma was also observed by BTC administration at the statue of Bodofa in front of the Secretariat where chief of BTR, Pramod Boro, sitting MLA Ashok Singhal, dignitaries, higher officers and staff offered floral tribute. The chief of BTR, Pramod Boro said that his council government had declared March 31 as holiday to celebrate the birth anniversary of Bodofa as Students' Day every year. He said that all nationalist organizations of the Bodos might have some philosophical differences but they should unite to achieve the goal of Bodofa UN Brahma. He called upon all to follow the principles and ideology of Bodofa.
