Kokrajhar: The central committee and Kokrajhar district Committee of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) offered floral tribute to the founder general secretary of ABSU late Kanakeswar Narzary on his 78th birthday on Saturday in Kokrajhar.

His 78th birth anniversary was observed at the Serfanguri High School Playground in Kokrajhar.

The programme started by flag hoisting. Dipen Boro President of ABSU hosted the flag.

Hirabai Narzary, Kanakeswar Narzary's wife, many dignitaries and local intellectuals paid floral tribute to the leader.

Former student leader of ABSU -Surat Narzary, former ABSU leader and Ex MLA Parmeswar Brahma and many other dignatories were present at the programme.

Kanakeswar Narzary was born on January 2 in 1943 at Tengaigaon village under Serfanguri police station of Kokrajhar district of Assam.

He was associated with the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) and became president of Kokrajhar district BSS after which he joined politics. Narzary was also associated with the Plains Tribal Council of Assam (PTCA), United Tribal Nationalist Liberation Front (UTNLF). And in June 1996 he became chief of BAC after he joined the People's Democratic Front (PDF) led by Daoharu Garla Batha Basumatary.

He was a noted writer in Bodo language and the pioneer among Bodos who dedicated his life to the welfare and growth of the Bodo community through social integration and led the Bodo youths to stand up against the suppression and exploitation and started the movement in different places. Narzary was one of prominent leaders of the Bodo society in his days. Narzary was awarded Jawaharlal Nehru Life Time Achievement Award On March 18 in 1999 by Global Economic Council for his Outstanding Individual Achievement and Distinguished Services to the Nation.
