ABSU’s nine-day ‘Mission Home Rescue and Restore’ brings vital relief to flood-hit Sivasagar villages

KOKRAJHAR: The All-Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) today concluded its nine-day relief and rehabilitation initiative, “Mission Home Rescue and Restore”, across flood-affected areas under Nazira Revenue Circle in Sivasagar district.

Led by the ABSU central committee, the mission brought together volunteers from 15 districts to provide direct support to communities affected by severe devastation and heavy siltation following the floods of July 19, 2026.

ABSU president Kwrwmdao Wary said the volunteers’ base camp was established at Rohdoi Pukhuri on August 14, bringing together 150 volunteers from across the region.

The ground operations officially began on August 15, coinciding with India’s 80th Independence Day. The day began with the hoisting of the National Flag at Rohdoi Pukhuri ME School by the headmistress in the presence of school authorities. This was followed by the hoisting of the ABSU flag at the base camp by Wary.

Wary said that over the nine-day operation, volunteer teams reached 209 affected households and carried out de-silting, structural repairs and recovery of essential household items damaged by thick layers of mud.

Recognising the disruption to education caused by the floods, ABSU also identified 60 severely affected students from various villages and distributed notebooks and stationery kits to help them resume their studies.

The villages covered by the volunteer teams included Majgaon, Santok Bazar, Prajabosti, Bor-Mising Gaon, Bihubor, Hillatol, Sonapur Nagar, Nepali Khuti, Balijan and Saiting Kaiti.
