SILCHAR: Hailakandi police arrested an Afghan national on the basis of a complaint lodged by his wife. The Afghan national, identified as Mohammad Quasim Sakhail, a resident of Paqtika province of Afghanistan was arrested on Friday. He had allegedly procured fake PAN and Aadhaar Card to prove himself an Indian national.

Quasim had reportedly entered India as a refugee. Subsequently, he reached Hailakandi and rented a house. He married a local lady. Quasim used to give loans to small time traders at high interest rate. Meanwhile, he managed to procure Aadhaar and PAN cards. A source said, he had changed his original name. For some reasons he developed enmity with his wife which prompted her to file a complaint against her husband. Police produced Quasim to a local court which had sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.
