BONGAIGAON: The AGP-BJP conflict over formation of Bongaigaon Zilla Parishad is on high gear now. Though AGP and BJP jointly participated in the Panchayat election at the Zilla Parishad Constituency (ZPC) level at Bongaigaon, and both parties got 4 seats each out of 12 seats, AGP finally formed the ZPC on Tuesday with the support of 2 Independent and one Congress candidate, where Mridula Singha was selected as president of Bongaigaon ZPC. But the BJP boycotted this meeting of ZPC formation which triggered a question mark on the AGP-BJP relationship.
CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in this regard stated that there was no conflict among AGP and BJP at the state level. “But Bongaigaon is quite complicated in the political context, for which, this kind of matter occurs. I must clarify that already, after the Panchayat election result, we, BJP and AGP had decided that the president’s post will be given to an AGP candidate. So, we don’t have any dispute in this matter. But I think, the AGP MP Phani Bhusan Choudhury or the AGP MLA of Bongaigaon may not have invited the BJP candidates properly. Otherwise, BJP would have definitely participated in the meeting,” he stated.
CM also stated that due to some reason, Bongaigaon always bore a complicated political scenario. “I have to suffer for that. Before every election, I have to conduct more meetings for negotiation and cooperation, I have to beg for pardon in many places of Bongaigaon,” he said.
On the contrary, Phani Bhusan Choudhury stated that the BJP candidates were invited several times. “Bhupen Ray is our AGP party President. And he invited the District President of BJP several times. But I don’t know why they didn’t attend. But our AGP-BJP alliance is intact at the state level,” Choudhury stated.
On the other hand, Girish Baruah, president of Bongaigaon District Congress Committee, said that the Bongaigaon Congress hadn’t supported AGP in the formation of ZPC on Tuesday. “It was the ZPC formation and oath-taking ceremony. And as one ZPC candidate from our team had won, he attended the meeting. It doesn’t mean we support the AGP. We remained silent because we didn’t have the majority to form the ZPC. AGP themselves proposed the president and themselves supported. We remained silent. AGP is in fact the prime opponent for Congress in Bongaigaon,” he stated.
