AJYCP sends memo to CM Sarbananda Sonowal, chainsaw machines seized

NAHARKATIA: After a news was published in The Sentinel under the headline 'Deforestation continues in Jeypore Rain Forest', the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) Naharkatia regional unit sent a memorandum, signed by president Gauranga Gogoi and acting secretary Pranjal Borah, to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal through the Circle Officer of Naharkatia Revenue Circle, Bikram Chetry on Thursday.

The organisation stated in the memorandum that some illegal saw mills in Naharkatia area played a vital role in deforestation of Jeypore Rain Forest. They demanded the forest department as well as the government to stop these illegal activities on an urgent basis otherwise they would launch a strong democratic protest with the help of the general public of greater Naharkatia.

On the other hand, after the news was published in The Sentinel, the forest department conducted raids at various places and seized a few chainsaw machines on Thursday.
