LAKHIMPUR: The anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) organizations took to the streets in Lakhimpur, resuming their protest programme on Friday against the controversial Act to mark December 11 as 'black day'.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) was turned into an Act by passing it in both houses of the Parliament on December 11 to grant citizenship to Hindu foreigners. On this very day last year, the organizations of the State, which have been opposing the Bill, along with public, took to the streets across the State and initiated extensive stir opposing the Act with the eruption of pent-up anger against the Union and State governments. This protest brought the State to a standstill for many days and five youths of the State - Sam Stafford, IshwarNayak, Dipanjal Das, Dwijendra Panging and Abdul Alim had to sacrifice their lives. They were later recognized as martyrs of the anti-CAA agitation by the protesting organizations.

With the determination that 'the sacrifice of the martyrs of the anti-CAA agitation shall not be allowed to go in vain', the activists of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged a protest programme opposing the Act on NH-15 near LIC office of the North Lakhimpur town on Friday. The demonstration began with the paying of deep tribute to Sam Stafford, IshwarNayak, Dipanjal Das, Dwijendra Panging and Abdul Alim by the protesters.

By initiating the protest programme, the Lakhimpur district unit of AJYCP declared that the organization would never approve of the contentious Act, which would allegedly affect the culture, language, economics and politics of the State. Further, the organization strongly demanded the Union Government to repeal the Act immediately. In the same programme, the activists of the organization pledged to intensify the agitation against the Act until it was repealed.

AJYCP central committee vice-president HemchandraGoswami, assistant general secretary Sourabh Das, along with other office bearers of the district committee and the activists of the regional committees were present in the programme. The protesters flayed Prime Minister NarendraModi, Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal, the Union and State governments by shouting a number of slogans.

NAHARKATIA: 'No CAA' slogans resonated the air in Naharkatia on Friday. On the call of the AsomJatiyatabadi Yuba ChatraParishad (AJYCP) central committee, AJYCP Dibrugarh district committee staged a massive anti-CAA rally from AJYCP Naharkatia regional unit office to Lengerijaan Public playground.

President of AJYCP Dibrugarh district committee, GirinChetia said, "We are not going to forget the sacrifice of the five Assamese youths who sacrificed their lives in the anti-CAA protest last year. We will continue our agitation in a democratic manner until and unless the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act is scraped."

Along with the members of AASU Naharkatia regional unit, members of AATSA Naharkatia branch, members of AASA Naharkatia regional unit, members of All India Democratic Women's Association Naharkatia regional unit, members of AJP and more than 500 people participated in the protest. The protesters shouted various slogans against the BJP-led Union and State governments.

At the end of the protest, the protesters organized a protest meeting in Lengerijaan public playground. In the meeting, the president of AJYCP Naharkatia regional unit, Gauranga Gogoi said, "The Union and State governments must scrap the CAA and show respect to the five martyrs of the anti-CAA agitation in Assam. If the government does not scrap the CAA, our protest will continue."

GOLAGHAT: The activists of AsomJatiyatabadi Yuba ChatraParishad (AJYCP) Golaghat District Committee on Friday staged protest near the Deputy Commissioner's office demanding immediate withdrawal of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Almost 200 activists of the organization took part in the protest programme and shouted various slogans against the BJP government demanding withdrawal of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

AJYCP central committee joint secretary JitulRajkhowa said that five youths were martyred and several injured in the massive protest against CAA. But the government did not listen to public the people's voice. The AJYCP demanded the government to withdrawal of CAA immediately, otherwise the government would face massive protest in the days.

JAGIROAD: The AsomJatiyatabadi Yuba ChatraParishad (AJYCP) Morigaon district committee, in association with several organizations, on Friday took out a protest rally against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA). The protesters shouted slogans against the government's move to implement the CAA. The protesters urged upon the government to pay respect to the people's voice or face the music.

TEZPUR: Protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) rocked Tezpur on Friday. The activists of the AsomJatiyatabadi Yuba ChatraParishad (AJYCP), Tezpur chapter, staged dharna near Church field demanding repeal of the controversial Act. Carrying placards and banners, hundreds of activists raised slogans against the State Government and the Centre demanding scrapping of the CAA. The organization vowed to intensify its movement against the contentious Act in the coming days. Leading the protest, AJYCP Tezpur district president Biswajit Kalita and vice-president Upen Kumar Nath said, "The people of Assam will never accept the CAA. We oppose the CAA tooth and nail, and want its complete withdrawal from the region. The controversial Act will definitely destroy the identity of the indigenous people of the State. It is a ploy of the Centre to destroy the identity of the greater Assamese society." Publicly secretary of AJYCP, Tezpur chapter, Rekibur Rahman also told media persons that the CAA was 'detrimental' to the State.
