All Assam Bhupendra Sangeet competition held in Tezpur

TEZPUR: The 18th Annual All Assam Prize Money Competition on Bhupendra Sangeet was held at the District Library auditorium on Monday. The event was organized by Rangapith, a leading socio-cultural organization of Tezpur. About 100 students participated in this competition from various parts of Assam. The state-level competition was divided in two categories, Group A for students from class IV to VIII and Group B for students from class IX and above and all others.

The programme started with the hoisting of the flag by Dilip Kumar Kakati, President of Rangapith, lighting of the earthen lamp by Parag Phukan, Advisor of Rangapith. It was followed by floral tributes to the Sudhakantha by Rabindra Kumar Bora, General Secretary of Rangapith and Nripen Hazarika brother of Dr Bhupen Hazarika. The competition was judged by noted singer Sandhya Menon, Rasananda Gogoi and Utpal Bora.

Attending the programme Nripen Hazarika said that Dr Hazarika's contribution in bringing the different communities and tribes of the State and the region together formed a strong bond of harmony and brotherhood. His vision encompassed the entire world, reflecting the mood and passion of the oppressed and downtrodden in his ballads and folk tunes that he picked up from different places. Three winners from each category were announced.

In the upper category, the first, second and third prizes were bagged by Sristi Kanan Adhikari, Alakananda Bhuyan and Debasruti Kasyap respectively, while in the lower category first, second and third prizes were bagged by Animesh Saikia, Zubinus Aman and Chandini Duwara respectively.
