BONGAIGAON: The All Assam Minorities Students’ Union (AAMSU), Bongaigaon district unit, staged a two-hour demonstration on Thursday protesting the recent eviction drives carried out by the Assam Government in various parts of the state.

The protest took place in front of the Railway Engineering Workshop at Paglasthan in the Bongaigaon town. AAMSU strongly criticized the eviction operations, calling them ‘inhuman’ and a form of ‘harassment’ against minority communities.

In a statement, AAMSU said, “We demand the immediate re-establishment of those who have been rendered homeless due to these eviction drives. We are not opposed to evictions when they are necessary and lawful. However, the government must ensure proper rehabilitation of the displaced.”

The organization accused Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma of targeting religious minority groups through these actions for political gain ahead of the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections. “This eviction campaign appears to be a politically motivated move aimed at creating fear and division among communities,” the statement alleged.

AAMSU urged the state government to reconsider its approach and ensure that the rights and dignity of all citizens, especially the marginalized, are respected.
