A promising student activist, Parag Narayan Bhattacharyya, passed away on Saturday morning around 7 am at a private hospital in Hyderabad after a brief illness.

TANGLA: A promising student activist, Parag Narayan Bhattacharyya, passed away on Saturday morning around 7 am at a private hospital in Hyderabad after a brief illness. He had been battling a liver-related ailment. At the time of his death, he was serving as the sports secretary of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Udalguri District Committee, and vice-president of the AASU Tangla Regional Committee.

The news of his untimely demise has cast a pall of gloom across the entire Udalguri district and the greater Tangla region. Parag was widely regarded as a dedicated youth leader with immense potential. His death has come as a great shock to the student community and various socio-cultural and political organizations in the region.

Parag Narayan Bhattacharyya was the elder son of Ananta Narayan Bhattacharyya, who is the president of the Darrang-Udalguri District Brahmin Sabha. He was also the nephew of former AASU leader Girish Bhattacharyya and Jayanta Kumar Bhattacharyya, a former vice-president of the AASU Central Committee. His strong family background in socio-political activism contributed to his deep involvement in student affairs and leadership.

Several organizations and individuals have expressed profound grief over Parag’s passing. Among those who offered condolences to the bereaved family are the Udalguri District Sahitya Sabha, Darrang-Udalguri District Brahmin Sabha, All Assam Brahmin Mahasabha, Tangla Sahitya Sabha, AKRSU Tangla and Udalguri District Committees, Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) Tangla and Udalguri Committees, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) Udalguri District Committee, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Udalguri District Committee.

Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, Bhergaon Subdivisional Police Officer Durga Kinkar Sharma, Udalguri District Sahitya Sabha Secretary Dibakar Boro, former BTC Executive Member Jagadish Sarkar, businessman Ajay Deka, BTC Executive Member Sanjit Tanti, former Rajya Sabha MP Santiuse Kujur, AGP leaders Jatin Kumar Deka and Pramod Hazarika, along with many others, have also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the young leader.
