All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) leader’s body found

LAKHIMPUR: The body of the missing AASU leader, Rahul Phukan, was recovered under the old bridge at Gamalaghat of Moinapara-Khangiya Chapori connecting road on Saturday. The incident provoked sensation in the entire Ghilamora region under Lakhimpur district. Notably, Rahul Phukan, who was the Sports Secretary of Ghilamora regional unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), has been missing for three days since February 6. On that day, he went out from his home located at Ghilamora Leluwoni in order to attend a feast with his friends. His family filed a case at Ghilamora Police Station.

Then Ghilamora Police launched operation to search for him and finally recovered his body. His body bore clear evidences of wounds and injury as a consequence of which Ghilamora AASU alleged that he might have been killed by some unscrupulous elements. Regarding the incident, Ghilamora AASU filed another case at Ghilamora PS and demanded stringent punishment for the culprits. The regional AASU unit kept the organization flag half hoisted. The unit organized a condolence meeting on Saturday and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul. Rahul was the only son of Abani Phukan and Parul Phukan, permanent residents of Ghilamora Leluwoni village.
