DIBRUGARH: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Friday staged a protest demonstration in Dibrugarh against the continuous rise in the prices of petrol, diesel, and essential commodities, holding the ruling BJP government responsible for the growing burden on the common people.
Hundreds of AASU members and supporters participated in the agitation, raising slogans against the government and expressing concern over the escalating cost of living. The protestors alleged that the unprecedented price hike of fuel and daily necessities had severely affected middle-class and low-income families across the state.
The demonstrators demanded immediate intervention to control inflation and provide relief to the public.
“The people have voted BJP to power in Assam but now due to price rise of essential commodities, the common people are suffering. Most of the businessmen are taking advantage of the situation and hiking prices of the essential goods. The government should take steps against them,” said Rupjyoti Borthakur, AASU district president.

As part of the programme, hundreds of students took out a protest rally through Nalbari town, raising anti-government slogans and demanding immediate steps to control the soaring prices of daily necessities. Carrying banners, placards, and flags, the protesters shouted slogans such as ‘Stop Price Hike,’ ‘Provide Relief to Common People,’ and ‘Control the Prices of Essential Commodities,’ creating a charged atmosphere across the town.
The student leaders alleged that the steep rise in the prices of cooking gas, edible oil, pulses, vegetables, and other essential items had pushed common people into severe financial hardship. They stated that lower and middle-income families were the worst affected by the escalating cost of living.
