LAKHIMPUR: The activists of the North Lakhimpur regional unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) burnt the effigy of the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, Dr. Jeevan B to protest against his alleged attempt to implement a fund amounting to Rs 100 crore, allotted to the district under Comprehensive Infrastructural Development Fund (CIDF), 2018-19, without plan.

In this regard, North Lakhimpur regional unit AASU president Pranjit Gogoi and general secretary Punamjyoti Buragohain said that the fund was allotted to the district for the infrastructural development of North Lakhimpur town.

"But unfortunately, it is seen that the DC has attempted to implement a major share of the fund just in pond development, club building construction and park construction without plan. Though the North Lakhimpur regional unit AASU has demanded the district administration to set up an ultra-modern bus terminus in order to mitigate of traffic jam problem of the town along with the shifting of the District Transport Office, District Jail, construction of planetarium and a ring road, the DC has not taken up any step in this regard," alleged Pranjit Gogoi and Punamjyoti Buragohain.
