
KOKRAJHAR: Union Home Minister Amit Shah delivered a keynote address at the 57th annual conference of the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) in Kokrajhar today. The event was attended by notable figures, including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other dignitaries.
During his address, Shah appreciated ABSU for its central role in bringing peace and development to the area, claiming that the Bodo Accord would not have been possible without their efforts. He paid tribute to the five thousand martyrs who struggled for peace in Bodoland and promised to have a major road in Delhi named after Upendra Nath Brahma, a prominent figure in the Bodo movement.
Shah spoke about the government's dedication to education, with the fact that students can now appear for examinations even up to class 12 in the Bodo language. He also spoke of the effective operationalization of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) peace agreement and mentioned that 82% of its provisions have been achieved with a goal of full implementation within two years.
The union Home minister also spoke of the withdrawal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) from the BTR region and the addition of local items, including Kokrajhar mushrooms, to the menus of Delhi hotels. He declared a Rs. 1,500 crore development package for Bodoland and spoke of efforts to rehabilitate ex-insurgents, mainstreaming them into society.
Shah concluded by urging Bodo youth to focus on education and contribute to the region's ongoing peace and development.
