TINSUKIA: The 3-day celebration of Amrit Sarovar Mahotsav got underway at Na-Pukhuri's Maruti Nandankakan Tinsukia with a public meeting and other activities. The meeting organised by Tinsukia Municipal Board (TMB) was chaired by Jayanta Baruah chairman TMB and was addressed by Sanjoy Kishan, Minister for Labour & Social Welfare Department, Narsing Pawar Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia. Kishan in his address while laying the importance of conservation of water assured that all water bodies including historical ponds in Tinsukia district will be conserved with proper beautification. Echoing the same feelings, Narsing Pawar said, "Tinsukia will witness a sea of change in next couple of months and steps have been initiated in that line. He also urged upon the public to hoist the Tricolour in proper ways and to preserve the flag with honour. Among others who addressed the meeting were Tilok Handique, Saroj Gohain, Hemanta Gogain and Dr Rishi Das. The programme was moderated by JP Das of TMB. Senior officials from district administration, Kajal Gohain, TDA chairman, leading citizens, journalists and ward commissioners of TMB were present in the programme. A painting competition was also organised at the venue.
