Biswanath Chariali: After the successful performance of the Bhaonas Udyog Parva and Ravan Bodh in English outside Assam, Ankiya Bhaona Kellygopal was staged successfully in Dubai in the English language for the first time from Assam under the banner of Prajanmya Unmesh, a leading socio-cultural organization of Assam recently.

Director of the bhaona, Arup Saikia told this correspondent, "Our mission was to establish that the bhaona is a unique example of the rich cultural treasure of medieval India. We also wanted to perform in wider acceptability across the globe." He further added that the language was only changed and the special features of bhaona, including plays, dialogues, dances, costumes, ornaments, entry and exit with footsteps of characters were kept intact.

Recipient of Padmashree award and Dubai based industrialist, chairman of BRS Venture and NMC Healthcare, Dr. BR Shetty inaugurated the event. The event was held in collaboration with Dubai-based Assamese society and the Department of Culture, Government of Assam. Significantly, Muslim youths played roles in this Ankiya Bhaona accepting the composite character and greatness of the greater Assamese society. The audience was mesmerised enjoying the bhaona performed in English other than in its original language Brajawali. Parliamentarian Kamakhya Prasad Tasa and Nagaon Sadar MLA Rupak Sharma were present on the occasion on behalf of the Government of Assam.
