TEZPUR: Anna Mahotsav was ceremonially launched in Sonitpur district on Thursday in a function held at District Library auditorium, which was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Bhupesh Chandra Das in presence of MLA Tezpur, Prithiraj Rava, chairman, Tezpur Development Authority, Biraj Nath, and prominent social workers.

An additional 5 kg of rice is being distributed per person to all eligible beneficiaries covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), under the third phase of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) announced by the Central Government last year, and the third phase will cover May to November period this year.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Tezpur Prithiraj Rava lauded the step taken by the State Government in providing food security to the people and said the government was implementing various welfare schemes for the common people and urged all present to create awareness about such welfare schemes so that more number of people receive the benefits.

Deputy Commissioner Bhupesh Chandra Das in his speech said that various government departments were working hard to ensure the benefits of all welfare schemes reach the intended beneficiaries. In view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases, he also appealed to all to come forward and get themselves vaccinated at the earliest. He, moreover, also appealed to the people to follow all COVID-19 protocol so that the cases can be kept in check. Around 50 NFSA beneficiaries were ceremoniously distributed the additional 5 kg of rice by the dignitaries present in today's programme.
