KOKRAJHAR: The president of the UPPL, Pramod Boro has hit back at former Lok Sabha MP Sanuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary for his alleged anti-BTR remarks and reiterated that Bwiswmuthiary’s arithmetic breakdown for political berth could have compelled him to criticize the 3rd Bodo Peace Accord.

Bwiswmuthairy on Thursday lashed out at some signatories of the recently signed Bodo Peace Accord, particularly targeting the former president of the ABSU, Pramod Boro saying that the new BTR accord could not at all be the comprehensive and final accord other than separate Bodoland state. He also said that the BTR Accord was a Himalayan blunder committed by Pramod Boro and his team as the accord was made in a hasty manner keeping the Bodo intellectuals and civil society in the dark while finalizing the modalities. He also said the community would not surrender its legitimate demand of Bodoland state.

Talking to reporters, the president of the UPPL, Pramod Boro said he had deep respect for Bwiswmuthiary and did not want to comment against him. He said that Bwiswmuthiary spoke against the BTR Accord because of his arithmetic breakdown to find seat. He said Bwiswmuthiary was the prime signatory of Bodoland Autonomous Council (BAC) in 1993 and subsequently became the Chief Executive Member but he resigned from the post of CEM after six months saying that the accord failed to implement its clauses. He also said that Bwiswmuthiary joined the chorus of movement for separate state of Bodoland after rejecting the BAC for failing to fulfil the aspirations of the people. Boro said the BTC Accord was signed in 2003 and Bwiswmuthiary, being Lok Sabha MP at that time, his presence was utmost necessary during the 2nd accord but he remained absent. He also said that Bwiswmuthiary wanted to give suggestions before the finalization of the draft of BTR Accord but he did not extend his suggestions in the BTC Accord for reasons best known to him.

Boro said the people of BTR did not require Bwiswmuthiary’s compliment on the new accord as Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself came to Kokrajhar and assured before the grand mass gathering that the BTR Accord was a significant accord for the development of the region. He also said that coming up of two more central universities, medical college, Northeast Institute of Medical Science, Sports University, NIT and more administrative and legislative powers were not a matter of joke for the new council. Boro questioned the former MP as to why 28 Bills passed since 2005 to 2020 by the BTC Legislative Assembly which were sent to the Assam cabinet for Governor’s assignment had not got his signature despite the BPF being an alliance party in the government.
