Army launches drone-assisted relief operation for stranded villagers in Dibang Valley

DIBRUGARH: A special relief operation was launched by the Indian Army at Mawali village in Dibang Valley to provide essential supplies to the stranded villagers. The operation saw the first-ever use of drones in Arunachal Pradesh for flood relief and rescue operations, reflecting the Army’s unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of the nation’s citizens.

The Indian Army has a long-standing tradition of serving as a pillar of support during natural calamities, leveraging its expertise, resources, and innovative approaches to deliver aid and hope to communities in distress.

Relentless torrential rains had unleashed catastrophic landslides across Dibang Valley, devastating homes, infrastructure, and agricultural lands. Athunli village was hit the hardest, with 16 homes completely swept away.

The Mawali village nearby was cut off, leaving six persons including three children, elderly, and women stranded without essential supplies as all access routes were blocked by landslides and damaged bridges. In a bold and innovative response, the Indian Army stepped up to deliver critical aid to these stranded residents.

A specialized Army team successfully deployed drones to airdrop vital rations, medicines, and supplies to the stranded persons of Mawali village. This helped them to sustain till the team of DDMA reached the village as a part of rescue & relief operation.

Additionally, the Army also laid a rope line across the river creating a ropeway that has been used for continuous supply of essentials and evacuation.

This joint operation by the Indian Army & district administration provided relief and hope to those stranded at Mawali village.
