Arunachal Man Arrested For Assaulting Fish Sellers From Assam Over Free Fish Demand

A man was arrested in Arunachal Pradesh for attacking two fish sellers from Assam who refused to give him free fish, leaving them injured.

GUWAHATI: A man has been arrested in Papum Pare district of Arunachal Pradesh following an alleged attack on two fish sellers from Assam. The incident occurred on Wednesday night in Banderdewa, a border area adjacent to North Lakhimpur district of Assam.

As per police reports, the alleged offender identified as 56-year-old Phassang Niya accosted the two vendors and demanded 3 kg of fish for free. When they denied his demands, Niya allegedly attacked them with a machete. The attack left the victims severely injured: Arun Hazarika incurred serious head injuries on his forehead, while Utpal Das sustained rib injuries.

Both victims are currently receiving medical treatment at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), as confirmed by Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo. The SP stated that the situation is under control and that law enforcement is actively monitoring the area to maintain peace.

In light of the incident, Gambo has coordinated with the Superintendent of Police in North Lakhimpur to ensure stability and tranquility between the two states. Reports indicate that the assailant is from Pallang village in the Kurung Kumey district, while the injured individuals are residents of Assam. The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
