Asom Jatiya Parishad stages protest, demands rice procurement centre in every panchayat

PATHSALA: Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP), in cooperation with Jatiya Krishak Shakti, staged two-hour protest in the Pathsala office demanding proper assistance to the farmers of the locality following drought-like situation during Sali crop cultivation.

Due to insufficient rain, the farmers of the area had to suffer a lot while cultivating Sali paddy. The protesters demanded to open rice procurement centre in every panchayat area through FCI in order to provide farmers the right price for their produce. They also criticized the role of the present MLA of the constituency, Ranjit Dass and alleged that he was playing the role of mute spectator while the farmers were suffering. They also demanded 100 per cent irrigation in the area. The demanded to pay proper compensation to the farmers, provide fertilizers and seeds free of cost for winter cultivation.

Phani Pathak, central committee secretary of the party and observer of Bajali, took part in the agitation along with Bajali district president Dilip Das, secretary Golap Talukdar and other leaders. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Bajali.
