PUNE: ASOMI, the pioneering socio-cultural organization of the Assamese diaspora in Pune, marked a major milestone this year with its 10th anniversary celebration during the Rongali Bihu festivities on April 12 at Mauli Garden, Baner.

This year’s event was not only a celebration of spring and Assamese culture but also a tribute to a decade of ASOMI’s commitment to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Assam in Maharashtra.

The highlight of the evening was the electrifying live performance by Assamese music sensation Neel Aakash, who made his season debut on ASOMI’s stage. His foot-tapping numbers had the audience grooving and cheering in delight. Sharing the spotlight was Hrishita Sahariya, whose melodious voice captivated listeners and added a soulful charm to the evening.

A cultural gem of the event was the graceful Sattriya dance performance by Dr. Devika Borthakur and team, which left the audience mesmerized. Adding to the evening’s elegance, a fashion show conceptualized by Mousumi Dutta Borah showcased the exquisite collection from her brand “House of Ritiya”, blending tradition with contemporary style.

In true Assamese festive spirit, the event also offered a culinary treat with food stalls serving delicacies like masor tenga, tekeli pitha with gur, and other traditional favorites that gave attendees a flavorful slice of Assam.

A special moment during the celebration was the unveiling of the 10th anniversary edition of the ASOMI magazine, showcasing the journey, achievements, and cultural milestones of the organization.

The event drew a diverse crowd, with both Assamese and non-Assamese visitors joining in the celebration, embodying ASOMI’s mission of cultural exchange and unity. For a decade, ASOMI has worked tirelessly to promote the art, music, language, history, and traditions of Assam while building bridges with the people of Maharashtra.
