GUWAHATI: In a significant operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) successfully seized a substantial quantity of cannabis, approximately 11 kilograms, from the Tejas Rajdhani Express at Badarpur Railway Station, marking a massive narcotics bust. The operation led to the arrest of two women suspected of trafficking the illicit substance.

Vigilant GRP officers uncovered the discovery during a standard security check. The contraband was meticulously concealed within the luggage carried by the accused individuals. The seizure took place when the Tejas Rajdhani Express train was traveling from Agartala, Tripura, to Delhi, the nation's capital.

The two women who were detained, identified as Monowara Begum and Jinta Begum, both hailing from Bishalgarh, Tripura, are currently being charged with significant narcotics trafficking offenses. The GRP has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

The authorities are currently interrogating the apprehended individuals in order to gather crucial information regarding their involvement and to potentially dismantle a wider drug smuggling network. The investigation aims to trace the source of the cannabis and identify any other individuals connected to the operation.

Meanwhile, two Bangladeshi nationals, Irfan Khan and Nurul Afsar, were apprehended by Assam police in Sribhumi district during a massive operation on the night of March 17. The arrests were made as part of ongoing operations to maintain a tight vigil along the Indo-Bangladesh border, with an aim to curb illegal infiltration.
