GUWAHATI: In a horrific cylinder explosion that rocked a brick factory in Kamrup's Pakorkona last night, as many as 12 laborers, including a two-month-old baby and a woman were critically injured. The victims suffered serious injuries when the blast occurred in the laborers' quarters.
For urgent medical care, eleven of the injured have been rushed to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. The condition of all the injured is reportedly critical.
While medical teams are working tirelessly to save the lives of the injured, authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion. Safety standards in labor accommodations at work sites have come under scrutiny as a result of the tragedy.
Meanwhile, concerns over the lack of fire safety measures at Shree Marwari Natya Samiti, a popular function hall and wedding venue located at Babulal Poddar Path, Dibrugarh, have prompted urgent calls for action.
Kailash Bagaria, a local resident, brought the issue to light in an email dated January 16, addressed to the Fire & Emergency Services Directorate, Assam.
The email highlighted several critical shortcomings in fire safety compliance at the venue, which regularly hosts large-scale social gatherings and events. In his email, Bagaria pointed out the absence of essential fire safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and sprinkler systems.
