GOLAGHAT: The142 Bn Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) today commemorated Valour Day with great pride and reverence at its Battalion Headquarters in Jonaki Nagar, Golaghat, paying rich tributes to the bravery and sacrifice of its valiant personnel.

Valour Day marks the historic battle at Sardar Post, Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, in 1965, where two companies of the 2nd Battalion, CRPF, held their ground against a full-fledged attack by a Pakistani infantry brigade. Despite being heavily outnumbered, the CRPF personnel fought heroically, eliminating 34 enemy soldiers and capturing 4 alive. Six brave hearts laid down their lives in this epic encounter, which remains a glorious chapter in CRPF’s legacy.

The day’s events began with the arrival of Mohinder Kumar, Commandant, 142 Bn CRPF, who paid homage at the Martyrs’ Memorial. A Tree Plantation ceremony was organized at the Mandir premises, symbolizing growth and remembrance. The Chief Guest was accorded a ceremonial salute at the Quarter Guard, followed by a Special Sainik Sammelan, addressing the troops on the significance of Valour Day and encouraging continued dedication to national service.

The cultural programme commenced with a welcome address, followed by a tribute ceremony, including the garlanding of the Kalash in honour of the martyrs. The event was graced by RW Dawa, DIGP Range Khatkhati, as Chief Guest and Pulak Mahanta, Deputy Commissioner, Golaghat, as Guest of Honour. A ceremonial lamp-lighting marked the formal inauguration of the programme.

The programme featured a classical Bharatanatyam performance, a special address by the Commandant, and the screening of a short film showcasing Valour Day celebrations across CRPF formations.

In a heartwarming gesture, the families of martyrs were felicitated with souvenirs and Assamese gamochas by the dignitaries. The event also included the presentation of medals and appreciation letters to CRPF personnel for their distinguished service. Mementoes were presented to the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour as a token of gratitude.

A special meditation and stress management session by the Brahma Kumaris offered mental wellness support to the personnel. The event concluded with vibrant cultural performances and a heartfelt vote of thanks by Ravi Shankar, Deputy Commandant. The commemorative day culminated in a Bada Khana, where all officers, SOs, jawans, and guests came together in a spirit of camaraderie and celebration.

The CRPF continues to stand tall as the backbone of India’s internal security, upholding its motto ‘Service and Loyalty’ with unmatched courage, professionalism, and dedication.
