KOKRAJHAR: The 21st annual conference of the Dularai Boro Harimu Afad (DBHA), being held at Shantipur High School Playground, entered the 2nd day today.

As a part of the programme, President of DBHA Bijuel Nelson Daimary hoisted the organizational flag while presidents of 24 district committees also hoisted their respective flags simultaneously and homage to the martyrs of Bodo culture was paid by Vice-President Sushil Hazoary. Daimary said that the DBHA had come a long way with many challenges for the protection and development of the rich Bodo culture. He said that the organization was not only concentrating on the protection of Bodo culture and tradition but also was focused on the uniformity of Bodo folk and traditional dance form and concretization of the syllabus of Bodo folklore and folk dance. He also elaborated the significance of the flag of the DBHA which embraces the workers of the Bodo culture to work together under one roof.

Meanwhile, folk dance teacher and Secretary of Bodoland Cultural Centre (BCC) Ramfalbil-Barlangfa Narzary, in his inaugural speech of Bodo folk and Bwisagu traditional dance, said that every Bodo should respect and embrace his or her own cultural heritage, dress, identity, and language. He said that Ostad Kamini Kr Narzary was instrumental to standardize the ‘Bagurumbha’ traditional dance with uniformity of the art of the dance. Ostad Kamini Kr Narzary had also led the Bagurumbha troupe to New Delhi during the Republic Day celebration in 1957. Ramfalbil-Barlangfa Narzary also said that the Bagurumbha traditional dance, with its own unique style, had got broad recognition worldwide.

On the art and character of Bwisagu dance, Narzary said that the Bwisagu dance had its own character and is different from Bagurumbha. He said that rural people had the largest contributions to upholding the folk cultural entity. He said that Bagurumbha and Bwisagu dances were the key to showcase the unique identity of the Bodos to the world communities and protection of this unique culture should be carried forward by all. He, however, said that the political division among the Bodos caused division in the social system too and the celebration of Bwisagu is heading on a party line. He called upon all to celebrate Bwisagu with their own tradition, keeping party lines away as it is the symbol of peace, unity, and brotherhood.

A competition on short drama was inaugurated by noted comedian Faila J Borgoyary while ‘Rwisumwi Khobam’ was inaugurated by BTC EM Ranjit Basumatary. The get together of artistes was inaugurated by Advisor of DBHA Jogeswar Brahma.
