Assam: 26th Bogai Cultural Night Held at Boko

Boko: Former Deputy Commandant of ULFA-I Monoj Rabha and Dristy Rajkhowa inaugurated the 26th Bogai Cultural Night at Boko on Saturday. Hriday P. Mahanta, working president of the Bogai Committee, said that the Bound Morphemes is an indie-rock band from Guwahati, Marmita Mitra from West Bengal, and Assam’s famous comedian actor Siddharth Sharma (known as KK), and many other traditional cultural programs will be performed on the Bogai Khetro in Boko.

During the inauguration of the ‘Bogai’ evening, senior journalist of Assam Sushil Patowary had lit the clay lamps of the program. Siddharth Goswami, Chief Executive Officer of Kamrup Zila Parishad, RHAC Executive Member Sumit Rabha, and many other dignitaries took part in the inauguration program. 

During the inaugural speech by former Deputy Commandant of ULFA-I, Monoj Rabha, Alice Drishty Rajkhowa memorized the history of the area and said during the ancient time, the area was called the Bogai kingdom, and its feudal lord was Ew Maina Singh. On the other hand, according to history, the Bogai kingdom was called during the reign of King Baga Singh. From that tenure, the area was culturally well organized. From that time, the cultures like Hanaghora, Kalighora, Jarighora, etc. have performed till now. Later, a son of the Bogai kingdom, Ronda J. Sangma, refuged with Srimanta Sankardev and started focusing on preaching Vaishnavism.

“The descendants of the Bogai kingdom are still honoured in the Boko Chaygaon area. Bhuban Singh Rabha from Oufula Village under Boko-Chaygaon LAC is yet to be honoured as the king of the Bogai Kingdom. The Bogai Cultural, Social, and Sports Organization was born 26 years ago to preserve the heritage and cultural traditions of the Bogai kingdom. I would like to take this opportunity to thank those worthy children of Boko whom Bogai gave birth to. Therefore, it is necessary to take positive steps in the fields of culture, society, and sports in the coming days.” emphasized former Deputy C-in-C of ULFA-I Drishty Rajkhowa.

Arjun Chetry, the president of the 26th Bogai Cultural Evening, said that the Bogai Committee has awarded four prominent persons for their contributions in various fields of work. “The Bogai Pabitra Patowary Agriculture Award 2024 has been awarded to Daisy Daimary from Baniyabhitha village, Boko; the Bogai Social Award 2024 to Jatin Pathak, renowned social worker from Boko; the Bogai Cultural Award 2024 to the film director, poet from Barihat, Palashbari; and the Bogai Sports Award 2024 to Ranjit Das from Bondapara,” said Arjun Chetry.
