Assam: 320 Kg Cannabis Seized, One From Tripura Nabbed
The cops seized 320 kg of cannabis from a truck and nabbed one from Dispur.
GUWAHATI: Guwahati police successfully busted yet another drug racket in 20th of January, Friday. The cops seized 320 kg of cannabis from a truck and nabbed one from Dispur.
The arrested person is a resident of Tripura and has been identified as Thongiya Mog. According to the reports, the seizure has been made 19th January night from a truck. A special team of Guwahati police headed by Joint Commissioner of police, Partha Mahanta initiated the operation.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma appreciated the effort, through his Twitter. Sarma mentioned in his tweet that, the truck had secret packed the contrabands in a hidden chamber inside the vehicle.
The cannabis were supposed to be delivered in Assam. 'Excellent Work @assampolice. Keep it up' , tweeted the CM. On 17th of January, police of Karimganj district of Assam recovered 88 kgs of Yaba tablets. The seizure was made in Nischintapur located in Bagargul area of Karimganj.
This is considered as one of the biggest seizure in Assam till now. Police intercepted an alto with registration number AS-01A-6487 which carried the illicit items. One person was apprehended regarding the matter.
The accused has been identified as Hafiz Uddin. Reportedly, the seized contrabands were worth rs 40 crore as per the international market. Two home guards, Anupam Singha and Jasmin Uddin manage to het hold of the contrabands during a Naka check. Furthermore, Guwahati police on 14th of January, seized a huge quantity of heroine from a lodge in Dispur area.
22 packets of heroine was recovered during the process and the search was initiated in Barak Lodge, based on a prior information. Partha Sarathi Mahanta along with ADCP Kalyan Pathak, raided the hotel. The seized items were worth Rs 2.4 crore according to the international market.
