GUWAHATI: A tragic episode has been registered in Assam's Moran district, as two infants dies due to unbearable cold weather conditions. The revelation has been made by health officer, Dr Himangshu Borah on the 20th of January, Friday.
According to the statement of Borah, one infant was just four months old who died during sleep. The deceased baby's parents has been identified as Sunny and Rajmoni Dhanwar. The officer further informed that, the baby had previously visited the hospital for immunisation.
The medical team asked the mother if the baby was suffering from cold, on which the mother denied any such symptoms, but mentioned mild fever. The mother had feed her baby milk before sleeping, added Borah. In the morning hours, the father noticed the baby in a still position without any movement.
Dr Borah mentioned that, when he arrived at the deceased baby's home, he noticed a very poor living standard. The roofs had holes and they lacked minimum walls and barriers to protect themselves from the extreme weather condition. Moran has been under the influence of severe cold after the hailstorm had hit the region on 26th December, 2022.
The health officer further informed that another baby died due to cold in Moran. The deceased baby was reportedly one year old. Despite providing assistance to the affected families by the state administration, several needy families are yet to receive the support.
It is worth mentioning here that, a woman was found dead in Lumding railway station on the night of 6th January. Passerby and the general public suspected the cause of death as due to unbearable cold weather conditions.
According to Railway police department, the deceased has been identified as Durga Chakraborty.
