KOKRAJHAR: The fourth Kokrajhar Literary Festival, 2025 got underway from today at Bodofa Cultural Complex, Kokrajhar. The objective of the grand Kokrajhar Literary Festival is to hold a captivating event, bringing together renowned authors, poets, and intellectuals from various corners of the literary world. With panel discussions, book launches and engaging sessions, the festival aims to celebrate the diversity of literature and foster a love for the written word. Over 100 eminent poets, writers and litterateurs from different parts of India and abroad took part in the festival.
As part of the programme, Prof Anil Boro, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, hoisted the flag of the festival followed by the inauguration of the literary session which was chaired by him. The welcome address was given by Amarjyoti Barman, Secretary, BTC.
The programme was inaugurated by Pramod Boro while the keynote address was given by Cabinet Minister UG Brahma. Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, attended the inaugural programme as chief guest.
In his speech, the CEM of BTC Pramod Boro said that the people of the Bodoland region faced an abnormal situation due to insurgency problems but now the region has got back a peaceful environment. He said that the Bodos fought for long years for constitutional rights, protection of identity, culture, language, and literature in which over 5000 Bodos sacrificed their lives. He added that the government of BTR had been working for the welfare of all communities ensuring their living with dignity. BTC is a small council with limited resources and thus the council has been trying to provide a platform to the litterateurs by organizing Kokrajhar Literary Festival for the fourth time this year with best efforts with small funds, he said adding that the council will respect every community’s dignity.
Cabinet Minister UG Brahma said that the participation and response of the litterateurs and success of the literary festival will reflect the values of this programme which would be in a regular manner to unite and connect the poets and writers of different corners. He said that the situation for organizing such a literary festival was not conducive earlier due to the turmoil of militancy in the region but after return of peace, Pramod Boro-led BTR has been trying to give productive platforms for the society in the field of literature, culture, and sports, etc. He also said that literature could act as a catalyst of peace and love nature besides strengthening the bond of unity and communal harmony.
The programme was also attended by eminent journalist Mrinal Talukdar, Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University Prof BL Ahuja, former president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) Taren Boro, ABSU President Dipen Boro, President of the BSS Prof Surath Narzary, Jnanpith awardee Damodar Mauzo, BTC Ems, and other dignitaries. Many books were also released by the dignitaries on the occasion.
