Assam: 5th BTR Accord Day celebrated in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: The 5th BTR Peace Accord Day was celebrated at Green Field, Bodofa Nwgwr in Kokrajhar today in a befitting manner to mark the peace among all sections of the societies.

In his keynote address, the CEM of BTC Pramod Boro said that the aspirations of the people of BTR were being fulfilled after the BTR Accord, political rights of the Bodos living outside BTC have got BKWAC arrangement, extension of villages in Sonitpur and Biswanath are being done. He said that more funds for the 35 lakh population of BTC would be possible by the 125th amendment of the Constitution of India. There has been no violence, killings for the last five years in BTC as peace and communal harmony has returned, he said, adding that Bodoland was moving towards peace and progress at the relentless initiatives of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. The vision of Bodofa UN Brahma for the downtrodden people inspired them to work for the people of the backward region. He also said that there had been no conducive atmosphere to get proper education, to earn for livelihood, and understanding between each other due to movement and insurgency problems.

Boro said that land was one of the factors causing communal violence and misunderstandings as most of the problems took place based on land related problems. He also said that a community vision document for 26 communities of BTC has been released to solve their problems and the vision documents of the BTR Government would be released by March next. He further said that the government had been keeping vigilance on corruption with zero tolerance.

The event was attended by Minister of Handloom, Textile and Sericulture, etc. UG Brahma, Chief Executive Member of Bodoland Territorial Council Pramod Boro, MP Joyanta Basumatary, BTC Deputy Chief Executive Member Gobinda Chandra Basumatary, along with the Executive Members, Member of the Council, and other notable dignitaries.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma also took part in a spiritual ceremony in Kokrajhar to mark Bathou Puja.
