Assam: Sonitpur District Celebrates 76th Republic Day with Vibrant Programs in Tezpur

TEZPUR: Like other parts of the country, the 76th Republic Day was celebrated with vibrant programs organized centrally by the Sonitpur District Administration in Tezpur. At the event held at Church Field in Tezpur, Guardian Minister of Sonitpur District and Minister for Water Resources, Information and Public Relations Pijush Hazarika hoisted the National Flag and received salutes from contingents of police, paramilitary forces, NCC cadets, and students. In his address, Minister Hazarika paid tribute to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for India’s independence. He also highlighted the developmental achievements of various departments in Sonitpur District over the past year. Additionally, he elaborated on the numerous welfare schemes implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for the benefit of the people.

Before attending the event at Church Field, the minister offered floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Commissioner’s Office, honouring the martyrs of India’s freedom struggle. As part of the program, contingents from the armed forces, NCC cadets, and others participated in the march-past. In the professional category, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) secured the first position, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) took the second, and the 30th Assam Rifles team claimed the third position. In the non-professional category, the 5 Assam Battalion NCC team from Tezpur College bagged the first position, followed by the 5 Assam Battalion NCC team from Darrang College in second place, and the 5 Assam Battalion team from Tezpur Government Higher Secondary School in third place. Additionally, the 12th Assam Police Armed Forces from Kusumtola, the 30th Assam Rifles from Lokra, and the 68th SSB Brass Band team were honoured by the Sonitpur District Administration for their impressive band performances during the event. A special dog show presented by the armed forces captivated the audience.

Furthermore, cultural performances, including various traditional dances by local schools and groups, and tableau displays by different departments added to the festivities. The Republic Day celebrations at Church Field were graced by the presence of local MLA Prithviraj Rava, Rangapara MLA Krishna Kamal Tanti, District Commissioner Ankur Bharali, Superintendent of Police Barun Purkayastha, and other officials, employees, and dignitaries from various departments.
