DIBRUGARH: The 7th foundation day of Pratishruti Cancer and Palliative Trust was held in Dibrugarh.

With this bold vision as guiding principle, “Pratishruti” was incepted on December 15, 2017. The individuals behind this mission are cancer survivors, family members of affected patients, conscious motivated patients, and conscious motivated citizens of all walks of life including doctors, nurses, and paramedics.

In his welcome speech, Dr Alak Kumar Buragohain, president of Pratishruti Cancer and Palliative Trust and Chairperson Academics of Assam Royal Global University, spoke about the journey of Pratishruti.

“We have completed seven years today but I am reminded of how we started the project of Palliative care in Dibrugarh. We started the project for the people, families of those who suffer from cancer,” said Buragohain.

He added, “For our volunteers, one thing that I want to say is that empathy is necessary to deal with a patient. Our volunteers should be more empathetic towards the patient and family. We have become a modern model and scientific organization.”

Chief guest Dr Sanjeeb Kakoti, principal cum chief superintendent of AMCH lauded the efforts of Pratishruti Cancer and Palliative Trust for rendering service to the people. “Pratishruti has been doing good work in the field of Palliative care by rendering service to the patients who are suffering from cancer and other diseases,” Kakoti said.

Dr Gayatri Gogoi, honorary programme director of Pratishruti Cancer and Palliative Care said, “We started our journey on December 15, 2017 as a non-profit foundation which serves in the field of cancer and palliative care. The objective is to empower the community with a scientific approach to confront cancer.”

Panna Bharali, secretary of Pratishruti Cancer and Palliative Care, through a slide presentation, highlighted the work Pratishruti had done in the recent past. Bharali spoke about the work while visiting the patient’s house.

“Sometimes with one or two volunteers, we visited the house of a patient and while seeing the condition of living, we also faced challenges in dealing with the particular patient. But, we tried our hardest possible to explain about the disease and how to keep the patient clean,” Bharali said.

Dr Heramba Kumar Bharali Memorial Award for outstanding service in cancer care was given to Dr Kuddush Ahmed, retired head and neck surgeon of ENT at Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute while the Dr Prahlad Kumar Baruah Memorial Award for dedicated service in palliative care was given to Jorhat Pain and Palliative Care Society.
