Meanwhile, a two-day training program for coffee farmers was held at the Regional Coffee Research Station (RCRS) in Diphu, Karbi Anglong, Assam. The program aimed to equip new farmers with essential skills for coffee cultivation. Coffee seeds for the 2024-2025 financial year were also distributed.
Dr. Atiqur Rahman Bora, Deputy Director of Research at RCRS, shared that coffee cultivation was previously nonexistent in Karbi Anglong. However, after an awareness program in October last year, 31 individuals from Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong decided to start coffee plantations. They have completed nursery training and are set to plant coffee in July.
Additionally, on January 29, 15 officers from the Soil Conservation Department of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council were trained in modern coffee cultivation techniques. Coffee cultivation in the region, introduced in the 1980s, had declined due to low market prices but is now being revived through renewed efforts.
