Guwahati: Assam actress Asha Bordoloi, who was one of the most prominent faces of the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) agitation that rocked Assam at the turn of the year, officially joined the BJP on Tuesday, August 18.

The renowned actress Asha Bordoloi shall join the saffron brigade responsible for bringing the CAA, in the presence of the party's president Ranjeet Dass. She will be inducted into the party in the local headquarter in Guwahati.

Several other people also entered the fold of the ruling party at the high-profile induction ceremony today months before the all-important 2021 Assembly elections. Popular singer Vidyasagar is the other high-profile celebrity who joined the party today.

Assam Bordoloi's joining comes a day after fellow actor Jatin Bora re-joined the party after a much-publicized split back in December over the controversial CAA.

While announcing this at a press conference, Bora also expressed regret over leaving the party in the first place and said that the anti-CAA andolan was an attempt to "mislead the people" by anti-BJP forces.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal would never harm the interests of the people of Assam, Bora further added.

Back in the month of December, Jatin Bora resigned from the BJP as a mark of protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. He also quit the post of chairperson of the state-run Assam State Film Finance Development Corporation at Latasil playground in the presence of a massive crowd that had gathered to protest against the contentious Act.

Similarly, Zubeen Garg, who was one of the strongest voices in the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act in the state, recently earned a few haters after he was declared as Assam Agriculture Ministry's brand ambassador.

Following this, Garg was heckled by miscreants in Guwahati late on Wednesday night. According to a police complaint filed by the singer, he was on his way home when a private vehicle overtook his car and started hurling abuses.
