KOKRAJHAR: A day after BPF vice-president and former deputy chief of BTC Kampa Borgoyari tendered his resignation from the BPF on Sunday, the organizing secretary of the central committee, BPF Afzal Khan has also tendered his resignation letter to party president Hagrama Mohilary on Monday citing his personal business.

In his resignation letter to BPF President Hagrama Mohilary, Afzal Khan said that he had tendered his resignation letter from the current post and primary membership due to his pressing business commitments. He also said, “I regretfully must step down from this position. I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for the trust and confidence you have given to me during my tenure.”

On Sunday, seniormost BPF leader and former deputy chief of BTC Kampa Borgoyari quit the party citing his inability to give time to and serve the party. The exit of two leaders within two days has become a major concern for the BPF. People have been questioning whether the BPF was heading towards a death trap as many influential BPF leaders have left the party including former cabinet minister and vice president Chandan Brahma, BPF MCLAs Reo Reoa Narzihary, Rajib Brahma, Bijitgwra Basumatary, and Joy Mashahary, secretary of Ex-BLT Welfare Society and president of BPF Youth Wing Kabiranjan Brahma, former MLA and member of Policy Making Body of BPF Hemendra Nath Brahma, former MLA Chandi Basumatary, and many more who have joined either UPPL or BJP.

Meanwhile, talking to mediapersons, EM Dr Nilut Swargiary said that the BPF was fast heading towards its end as most of the senior leaders of the party have exited and joined the UPPL and the BJP. He said that the BPF was a strong regional political party and he did not expect that it would die too early. “The BPF is going to be like a sinking ship because of the mistakes and mismanagement of the party president. There could be many shortcomings and lack of understanding among them,” he said, adding that the UPPL had become stronger with public support and was emerging as a strong regional political party. He also claimed that within a short time, one more MCLA of BPF will leave the BPF to join the UPPL.

Meanwhile, the BPF has an intake of strong public bases among the Bodos. However, the party has been losing the bases of various communities. The exit of senior party leaders one after the other has troubled the balancing of its bases as supporters in grass roots are embarrassed due to the instability and lack of patience among the leaders. If everything is not settled, the BPF might not be far away from becoming a sinking ship.
