BOKAKHAT: A meeting held on Sunday by the Bokakhat sub-district committee of the Assam Agitation Veterans Forum welcomed the government’s initiative to evict the houses and residences of suspected illegal residents who had encroached upon forest land, thereby freeing the forest area. The meeting also urged the government to ensure the protection of land rights of the indigenous people.

Presided over by former active student leader of the Assam Agitation, Arun Bora, the meeting demanded that the government implements every clause of the Assam Accord and take strict action to deport foreign nationals based on the provisions of the accord.

Additionally, the meeting passed a resolution urging the government to provide appropriate compensation to the families of martyrs and victims of the agitation, and also to show special care and attention to those veterans who are now bedridden due to various illnesses as a result of their participation in the movement.

Moreover, the meeting decided that the current veterans of the Assam Agitation in the Bokakhat sub-district should get in touch with the Bokakhat sub-district committee and become members of the organization.

The meeting, where Bipul Gogoi, Secretary of the Veterans Forum, explained the objectives, was attended by Indreshwar Sharma, Bijoy Kumar Saikia, Chandrasekhar Gogoi, Bharat Ravidas, Nabin Dutta, Dipen Kumar Nath, advisor Jeetu Sharma Rajkhowa, among other dignitaries and members.
