Assam: Amritpal Singh’s Wife Kirandeep Kaur Meets Husband At Dibrugarh Jail

DIBRUGARH: Waris Punjab de Chief Amritpal Singh’s wife Kirandeep Kaur arrived in Assam’s Dibrugarh on Thursday afternoon to meet the pro- Khalistani leader, who is currently lodged at the Dibrugarh central jail with his associates.

Reports said Kirandeep Kaur arrived here to check on the conditions at Dibrugarh Central jail under which her husband is incarcerated after his arrest in Punjab. Kaur was accompanied by pro-Khalistani leader Daljit Singh Kalsi’s wife and son Neeru Kalsi and Simarjeet respectively. The wife- son duo had earlier come to meet their husband and father also lodged in the same jail.

The three of them met the prisoners Amritpal and Kalsi after the prison authorities granted them permission.

Earlier on April 20, Kirandeep, the wife of Amritpal Singh, was prevented from boarding a flight to the UK from Amritsar’s Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport. She was questioned for two hours, told categorically that she could not leave Jallupur Khera village without informing the police and then allowed to return there.

UK national Amritpal's wife Kirandeep arrived at the airport at around 11.40 AM to board the Air India flight (AI 117) that was to depart for Birmingham from Amritsar at 2.30 PM. The media persons got wind of this and made a beeline to the airport, where they found her standing in the queue with her luggage trolley. Senior officials were already present there along with paramilitary forces, woman constables, anti-riot police and personnel from various intelligence agencies, indicating the possibility of her arrest.

Reportedly, she was allowed to enter the airport where she passed through the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) security check, got her luggage scanned and went to the Air India’s counter and obtained her boarding pass, but was later stopped at the immigration counter for questioning and then handed over to police. As per another version, police arrested her after she entered the airport and she was quizzed for two hours in a separate room by the immigration authorities, police as well as other central agencies.

Following the incident, questions were raised as to why she was not stopped from leaving Jallupur Khera village and how she reached the airport, over 50 km from the village, despite checkpoints.
