BOKAKHAT: In an area under the Bokial Forest Range Office in Golaghat district, two people have died within 24 hours due to wild elephant attacks. Devcharan Nuniya, a resident of Junction in the Morongi mouza, was killed last night by a wild elephant. The elephant attacked him while he was guarding his private tea garden in front of his house. Devcharan died on the spot. Just the day before, a resident of Gidibosti was also killed in an elephant attack. These two deaths within 24 hours in the areas under the Bokial Forest Range Office have spread panic among the local people.

Residents of several villages under the Morongi mouza are living in fear and insecurity. Night now brings terror due to the presence of wild elephants. Villagers say that nights have become like a nightmare, dominated by the menace of wild elephants.
